How the answers were checked
Each column describes a named edition and the version checked on the date in its source list. SaaS entries describe the vendor's hosted service. Sources include documentation, release notes, pricing-page feature matrices and plugin directories. Numbered references link individual answers to supporting pages; answers without a number rely on the platform-level source list. Plans and releases can change after the recorded check date.
A feature counts as built in when the baseline edition has it: the free open-source core, the lowest tier on a SaaS pricing page, or the standard licence of an enterprise suite. When a feature needs a higher tier, a paid module or a plugin, the cell says so and names it.
WAYF is a Payload partner and contributor. We apply the definitions below across the table and link the evidence so you can check our interpretation. Where public documentation leaves an edition or contract term unclear, the note identifies what to confirm with the vendor. A potential match can include paid features, extensions or limited support; read those notes before choosing a platform.
- Built in
- Included in the baseline edition, with no plugin and no extra purchase.
- Paid tier
- Built in, but only on a higher paid tier or an enterprise edition. The note names the tier.
- Plugin or add-on
- Available through an official extension, a paid module, or a maintained, widely used plugin. The note names it.
- Limited
- Exists with a material limit, or baseline availability needs vendor confirmation. The note explains which.
- Not available
- Not available, or only by building it yourself.
Not in the table: Oracle Content Management, which Oracle retired, and commerce platforms such as Shopify and Magento, which the Medusa page compares. Performance, price at your scale and the quality of a vendor's support don't fit in a cell. The guide to which CMS fits which job and the migration library cover those. Spotted a stale answer? Narrowed it to two and still can't decide?
Send us the shortlist and what the site has to do. We'll say which one we'd pick and why.
